Avocado toast fingers
The five-minute breakfast for a new eater: soft avocado on toast, cut into strips a baby can actually hold.
Ingredients
- 1 slice of bread, preferably a low-salt loaf
- Half a ripe avocado
- A squeeze of lemon (optional)
Method
- Toast the bread lightly, so it holds together but is not hard.
- Mash the avocado with the lemon and spread a thin layer over the toast.
- Cut into strips about two adult fingers wide.
- Let it cool, then serve on the tray rather than in your baby's hand.
Bread is one of the bigger sources of salt in a baby’s day, so check the label and pick a lower-salt loaf where you can. Babies under 12 months should have less than 1g of salt a day.
A thin layer of topping is deliberate: a thick one slides off and ends up on the floor.
How to serve the ingredients safely
